Cataract
Learn about symptoms, modern diagnostic methods, and advanced treatment protocols available in China's top medical centers.
Understanding Cataract
A cataract is a clouding of the lens in the eye that leads to decreased vision. It is most commonly due to aging but can also occur due to trauma, radiation exposure, or as a secondary effect of other diseases. In our partner clinics in Beijing and Shanghai, we use a multidisciplinary approach involving ophthalmologists and optometrists to diagnose and treat cataracts.
Advanced Diagnostics in China
Accurate diagnosis is the first step toward effective treatment. Our hospitals offer:
- Visual Acuity Testing: Measuring clarity of vision.
- Slit-Lamp Examination: Detailed inspection of eye structures.
- Retinal Examination: Assessing the back of the eye.
- Tonometry: Measuring intraocular pressure.
Treatment Options
Depending on the diagnosis, treatment may involve monitoring, corrective lenses, surgery, or an integrative approach combining Western medicine with Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) to support eye health and recovery.
- Monitoring: Regular check-ups for early-stage cataracts.
- Corrective Lenses: Updated prescriptions as needed.
- Surgical Removal: Phacoemulsification with IOL implantation.
- Integrative TCM: Herbal formulas to support eye health.
