Understanding Tenosynovitis
Tenosynovitis is the inflammation of the fluid-filled sheath (synovium) that surrounds a tendon. This condition commonly affects tendons in the hands, wrists, and feet, causing pain and restricted movement. It can result from overuse, injury, or underlying inflammatory conditions like rheumatoid arthritis. The inflammation affects the smooth gliding motion of tendons. In our partner clinics in Beijing and Shanghai, we use a multidisciplinary approach involving orthopedic surgeons, rheumatologists, and physical therapists to manage this condition.
Advanced Diagnostics in China
Accurate diagnosis is the first step toward effective treatment. Our hospitals offer:
- Physical Examination: Assessing tenderness and range of motion.
- Ultrasound: Visualizing tendon sheath inflammation.
- MRI Scanning: Detailed soft tissue imaging.
- Blood Tests: Checking for inflammatory markers.
Treatment Options
Depending on the diagnosis, treatment may involve rest, medications, physical therapy, or an integrative approach combining Western medicine with Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) to reduce inflammation and support healing.
- Rest and Immobilization: Allowing inflammation to resolve.
- Anti-inflammatory Medications: Managing pain and swelling.
- Physical Therapy: Restoring function gradually.
- Integrative TCM: Acupuncture and herbs for inflammation.
