Thyroid tumors are abnormal growths that develop in the thyroid gland, a butterfly-shaped organ located at the base of the neck. These tumors can be benign (non-cancerous) or malignant (cancerous). Most thyroid nodules are benign, but proper evaluation is important to identify those that may be cancerous. Symptoms may include a visible lump in the neck, hoarseness, or difficulty swallowing.
